There are certainly challenges to keeping the kids home from school, but there are some upsides, too. Many parents have confessed that they enjoy having a more laidback schedule. There’s a lot less running around and stressing about getting the kids to and from school and extracurricular activities. Parents have also been hopeful that their kids won’t be coming home from school sick or with head lice.

Except that…kids are still turning up with head lice.

That’s right – there’s such a thing as isonits.

What are Isonits?

“Isonits” is a buzzword that refers to kids getting lice in isolation. Lice are extremely contagious and kids usually pick them up from school or daycare – settings where they are in close contact with one another. Now that we’re going into our third month of isolation, there should be no cases of head lice, right?

Well, not exactly. There have been several cases of parents finding nits in their childrens’ hair.

In reality, head lice are far more common in our communities than we realize. Some infestations can come and go without detection, so chances are, these kids picked up lice before the lockdown. It can take up to six weeks for lice symptoms to appear, which means they could show up a month-and-a-half into quarantine.

Treating Head Lice During Quarantine

The good news is that treatment is available and accessible during this time. My Hair Helpers has three locations in Southern California – Downey, Thousand Oaks and Lawndale. Our Lawndale location is opening in mid-June and will help us spread out customers. We are also following all guidelines and precautions to keep everyone safe.

If you’re more comfortable with an at-home treatment, we sell our products on Amazon as well. They’re safe, effective and made from all-natural ingredients. You can find informational resources on our website that will help you stay lice free forever.

Be aware that we do recommend two treatments so that you can kill off any nits that might be missed in the first application. It’s important to get rid of these guys so that they don’t start a new infestation.

Bottom line: If your child is turning up with nits while they’ve been quarantined, chances are they had lice (or someone else in the home had lice) and the symptoms are showing up now. Fortunately, by getting the proper treatment and maintaining social distancing requirements, now is a great time to knock out lice for good!
